Neighbors recall terrifying scene after Vernon home destroyed by fire

VERNON, Connecticut — Those who live on Prospect Street in Vernon say they were shocked to see a neighboring home up in flames Wednesday night.

One neighbor, Omoi Tibby, noted that it was unlike anything she’s seen before.

“I heard yelling, and then I heard, "Is anyone in there? Is anyone in there?” Tibby recalled. “When I looked on the camera, I saw fire and went to my mom and said, “Mom, somebody's house is on fire.'"

Tibby lives across the street from where the fire happened. The scene is now etched in her memory.

"There was a lot of explosions, like a big bang,” said Tibby. “It was a lot of fire. They were going in the house, but they had to back up because it was just so much smoke.”
