PHOENIX (AZFamily) — After recent rare June rainfall in the Valley, there’s been a reported jump in troubling mosquito activity.
Maricopa County Environmental Services (MCES) reported an increase in mosquito activity in the county. MCES sets up hundreds of traps throughout the Valley, and officials said 13 of them have tested positive for West Nile virus.
“For the next several days and weeks, we will be seeing an increase in mosquito activity,” MCES spokesperson Johnny Dilone said.
So far, there are no reported cases of people catching West Nile virus this season in Arizona. If contracted, about 80% of people won’t have symptoms, experts said, but those that do could experience flu-like symptoms.
“We have identified thousands of areas over the years that are problem areas,” Dilone s
