NEWTON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A Catawba County man was sentenced to up to 33 years in prison Wednesday for his conviction of killing one woman and seriously injuring another in 2022.

According to the district attorney’s office, 28-year-old Shykwon Rashard Gibbs, of Conover, was sentenced in Catawba County Superior Court to serve 26 to 33 years. It came after he pled guilty to second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

The charges stem from the June 19, 2022, shooting death of 47-year-old Amy Raelynn Phillips, when her 23-year-old daughter and Gibbs’ longtime girlfriend, Keiyara Kelly Johnson, also was shot multiple times.
