A large contingent of Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters extinguished a major emergency structure fire Thursday at a group of one-story commercial buildings in the Harvard Square neighborhood of South Los Angeles, east of Chesterfield Square.
Fire crews responded at 2:07 a.m. to 1721-1741 W. Slauson Ave. and Western Avenue where they found heavy flames burning in the rear section of three structures, said LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey.
NBC 4 reported a home and a floral shop, an upholstery shop and one additional business were damaged in the blaze and residents reported hearing several explosions during the fire.
It took 121 firefighters 46 minutes to contain and knock down the flames, Humphrey said.
