DANBURY, Iowa (KTIV) - Due to high nitrate levels in the water system, Danbury, Iowa, has issued a drinking water warning.

Officials tell KTIV the warning was issued on Thursday, June 5, and will remain in effect until further notice. Residents will be notified when the nitrate levels have lowered to safer levels.

According to a Facebook post from Danbury officials , water with high nitrates can be dangerous for infants under 6 months old. Additionally, boiling, freezing or filtering the water does not reduce the nitrate levels. Excessive boiling can make nitrates more concentrated because nitrates remain behind when water evaporates.
