SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Forget about Bingo and shuffleboard; one 85-year-old Sioux City man is keeping busy in his golden years by being crafty. Ron Emmick is a veritable one-man flea market.
“Here’s a little tractor that I made out of a mailbox,” he said while showing off one of his works of art in his Morningside backyard.
“It’s a cow horn mounted on something where you could use it for a hat rack or rope rack,” he said of another piece.
Where others might see rusty old remnants or animal antlers, Ron sees artistic opportunity.
“I buy old scoop shovels and I cut out a cow head. I buy barn lanterns and make bird houses out of them. I put deer antler handles on them and then I carve a little bird head on the end of them,” he said to KTIV’s Al Joens about some of the items he’s created.
