BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Kern County Animal Services announced a fee-waived adoption event set for Saturday in honor of the second annual California Adopt-a-Pet Day, joining more than 150 animal shelters throughout the state.

Every animal adopted from Kern County Animal Services will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and licensed, according to the department. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will cover the cost of most fee-waived adoptions at the event.
