MADISON (WKOW) -- Lawmakers at the state capitol in Madison said Thursday they don't think the federal government is doing a good job enforcing a rule requiring hospitals to share prices for procedures, and they want to take the issue into their own hands.
"We're going to make sure that it's a priority here at the state level because our patients deserve better," Senate President Mary Felzkowski (R-Tomahawk) said. "Medical bills is the number one cause of bankruptcy in the United States. Why? Why are we doing this? Doesn't make sense."
Felzkowski is one of the lead sponsors of the bill, called the Price Transparency for Patients Act. She's joined by Sen. Julian Bradley (R-New Berlin), Rep. Robert Wittke (R-Caledonia) and Rep. Bob Donovan (R-Greenfield).
