A North Hollywood father was sentenced to over 12 years in prison for a brutal assault that left his 14-month-old son with permanent injuries.
The assault took place on March 22, 2022, and the child was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery for permanent head and brain injuries, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The boy’s father, Cesar Daniel Cabrera Jr., 23, had "confessed and admitted to the abuse" during police questioning. He was taken into custody by LAPD.
He was initially charged with assault on a child resulting in paralysis of a permanent nature and child abuse resulting in great bodily injury.
On June 5, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Cabrera was sentenced to 12 years and eight months in state prison for the assault.
