KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — Speed cameras could soon be going up in school zones around Knoxville, after the city council approved the installation of at least 150 cameras. The goal is to improve safety at busy intersections where speeding cars could put children in danger.
Jana Gadd is a mother of six, and her kids are enrolled in three schools across Knoxville. The Gadd family lives between Gresham Middle School and Fountain City Elementary.
The Gadd's love their neighborhood except for school drop-off times.
“It has such a sweet feel to it, but it does take away from it when you see cars just speeding up and down," Gadd said.
She said parents are typically the speeders and drive on autopilot, not noticing where children might be crossing the street.
