TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Luis Rivera, one of two convicted hitmen in the murder of FSU Professor Dan Markel , will soon be released from federal prison.

Bureau of Prisons records show Rivera is currently being held in Marianna FCI and is slated to be released later this month on June 30. Prosecutor Georgia Cappleman says Rivera will be immediately transferred to a state prison.

“He still has a state sentence to serve so he’ll go to a state facility to serve the remainder of that sentence,” Cappleman said. “I think he has seven, seven and a half more years, but of course, he’ll get gain time, so that’s at the discretion of the Department of Corrections.”
