PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - As Job Corps programs from across the nation wait for the next update in the wake of last week’s pause on the federal program, workers and students are speaking up.

“From the outside, you might not understand the program. But if you could learn more about it and how wonderful it is and how it changes people’s lives,” said former Carl D. Perkins employee Cindy Martin.

Martin was an employee at the Prestonsburg Job Corps Center for 15 years and joined its workers Thursday to protest the phased pause.

“You can’t put money on how much this is worth,” she said. “And it’s like that at Job Corps across the nation. We can’t afford to lose this job and it’s just not a job. It is our our future. These young adults need us.”
