PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — As temperatures soar and a heat wave looms, organizations in Multnomah County are urging residents in need of air conditioning to act quickly.
With temperatures expected to reach 90 degrees, the demand for cooling units is high. Brendan Haggerty from the Multnomah County Health Department emphasized the importance of preparing for the heat, saying now is the time to make sure you're prepared.
"We look at the deaths that we've had since the heat dome. The majority of them are older men who are living alone. So if you have someone like that in your life, it's a great time to check on them, to make a plan, to go do something cool, you know, maybe see a movie or something like that," said Haggerty.
