NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A recent influx of fraudulent text messages claiming to be from the Tennessee "Department of Vehicles" has been brought to light.
The Clarksville Police Department made an warning citizens that these texts are not legitimate, citing a misspelling where it refers to the "Department of Vehicles" instead of the correct Department of Motor Vehicles.
The text message is meant to invoke fear by claiming the receiver has an unpaid traffic ticket that must be paid, or they may suffer one of the listed penalties.
The texts are also sent from random, unofficial email addresses that are not from the State of Tennessee or any other governmen
