DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Measles is a highly contagious disease, featuring symptoms like a red rash, high fever, cough, and other flu-like symptoms.
There are four confirmed cases of measles in Minnesota this year but none in St. Louis County.
The most recent confirmed case involves an unvaccinated child who was at the Mall of America while infected on May 24.
According to Suzy Van Norman, a nurse with St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services, one dose of the measles vaccine is 93% effective and two is 97%.
The measles vaccine is combined with mumps and rubella prevention so it is more commonly known as MMR.
Two shots of the vaccine is considered the full dosage.
