LINCOLN, Neb. —

Million-dollar rains—that's how local farmers describe the recent moisture much of the state has been receiving over the last two weeks.

The late-May and early-June showers have kick-started crops.

The gentle patter of rain over the past two weeks has been like music to the ears of farmers like Mark Tachovky near Wilber.

"There were million-dollar rains, and they were a million-dollar rains, but we still need more," Tachovky said.

It's allowed his corn and his beans to get a start.

That's something he was worried about when he planted.

"I was planting my corn three inches deep just to get the moisture. And that's I've never planted corn that deep," Tachovky said.

He said this year marks the fifth year of drought.

Many of his ponds are still dry.
