HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Denise Watson has been on a heartfelt mission for 14 years, providing meals to those in need in Huntsville. Her initiative, "Hand-Up Ministries," aims to offer support without the stigma of a handout.
Watson started in 2010 with a friend, delivering meals from the trunk of her car. They would drive through low-income neighborhoods, asking if anyone needed a meal.
“I’ve been there. I've been sleeping in my car," Watson said. "I've had to stay with people...to me that's a blessing and that's something that God did for me so the best thing that I can do is basically reach out and help others.”
Her mission has grown to a twice-a-month effort serving hot, three-course meals. Watson covers most costs herself, though she does accept donations.
