BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Steel may move fast in the construction world, but the effects of policy take time to unfold.

That’s the case now as local suppliers react to newly announced tariffs on steel and aluminum. On Wednesday, the Trump administration increased those tariffs by 50%, part of a broader effort to strengthen American manufacturing.

But small business owners like Anton Roise are left weighing what that means for their bottom line and for their customers.

“For the Trump tariffs on steel and aluminum, it’s a little bit unknown right now,” said Anton Roise, co-owner of Superior Supply, a Bismarck-based business providing roofing and siding materials to contractors and homeowners across the region.
