DUQUESNE, Pa. —
The local food purchasing assistance program through the U.S. Department of Agriculture helped connect 14 local food banks with more than 180 farmers across Pennsylvania.
That program was cut in March, and with the governor announcing a lawsuit on Wednesday, farmers and food banks are now hoping for the best. Advertisement
"We have exhausted all options to be able to resolve this matter simply through dialogue, and I'm tired of waiting for someone to stand up for our farmers and our food banks. That task falls to us," Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said.
The governor said those words before announcing that Pennsylvania was suing the USDA following their termination of the local food purchasing assistance program.
