QUINCY (WGEM) - A special opportunity awaits Quincy University basketball player Tiernan Stynes in July.

Stynes, a 6-foot-6 rising sophomore guard, was recently named to Ireland’s U20 team which will play in the FIBA Youth EuroBasket 2025 in Yerevan, Armenia.

“It means a lot to me and my family to have the opportunity to represent Ireland,” Stynes said when reached at his home in Point Cook, Australia.

“I’m very honored and will wear the colors with great pride. It’s been a dream of mine to play for a country. Honoring my family is such a blessing.”

During his freshman year at QU, Stynes averaged four points and three rebounds in 19 games including four starts.

Stynes is the son of the late Dublin GAA and AFL star Jim Stynes. So that family history allows him to play for Ireland.
