Ninety-four people will lose their jobs this summer when Hood Packaging Corp. shutters its nearly 80-year-old Vancouver operation.

The Mississippi-based company filed a closure notification Tuesday with the Washington State Employment Security Department. Layoffs will begin Aug. 1.

A representative from Hood Packaging Corp. didn’t respond to inquiries about why the facility is closing or what separation services are being offered to employees.

Hood Packaging bought the facility at 1401 W. Fourth Plain Blvd., from Missouri company Bemis Co. Inc., in 2014.

Bemis opened the plant, which primarily manufactured multiwall paper pet food bags, in 1947.

The company employed 150 people in Vancouver when Hood Packaging took over, all of whom were hired

to continue working there.
