Unity's Denney named WCIA 3 Athlete of the Week

TOLONO, Ill. (WCIA) - Unity track and field's Ashlyn Denney was named the WCIA 3 Athlete of the Week on Thursday.

Denney reached the podium in four different events at the IHSA state meet and now holds the Rockets' 800 meter program record.

Competing in class 2A at the state meet in Charleston, she finished fifth in the 800, fourth in the 400 while anchoring the 4x800 to a state title and helping the 4x400 to a second place finish.

The senior helped the Rockets to a second place finish in the team scores. The Rockets finished second as a team in the 2024 state cross country meet, too. Denney finished 36th in that meet.
