CROWN POINT — Court records allege a Chicago man was drunk when he crashed his vehicle into another car, which resulted in the death of a Calumet City woman earlier this year in Hammond.

Joellic Herron, 30, was driving east in a gray Nissan Sentra March 15 when he struck a black Volkswagen Passat head-on in the 3000 block of Michigan Street, according to a probable cause affidavit. Herron, his passenger and the Volkswagen driver were all seriously injured. The Volkswagen passenger Rosa Lopez, 72, died from abdominal injuries sustained in the crash.

Herron was charged Wednesday with felony counts of causing death when operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol level of .08 or more, causing catastrophic injury when operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol level of .08 or more
