Legislation that allows a columbarium to be installed at the Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum possible is now law.

Gov. Mike Braun ceremoniously signed Senate Enrolled Act 520 into law Thursday at the memorial property surrounded by veterans and state, city and county leaders.

“These organizations serve an especially sacred purpose,” Braun said. “By exempting eligible veterans organizations from certain perpetual fund deposit requirements, they can focus fully on fulfilling that sacred purpose.”

The law exempts the veterans memorial from a $100,000 fee to install a columbarium on the O’Day Road property. A columbarium is a structure that stores funeral urns. They are separated into niches where individual urns get final resting places.
