In his second trial, a Fort Wayne man was found guilty of neglect that led to his 17-month-old daughter's death.

Michael T. Allen Jr., 35, was charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death and aggravated battery for the death of his daughter, Kaivonni Lynn Vachon.

His first trial ended in June after jurors couldn't decide whether he was guilty or not guilty after six hours of deliberating. A week later, a second trial was scheduled after prosecutors decided to try again.

Jurors deliberated for less than two hours Thursday before determining Allen was guilty on both counts. He now faces up to 80 years in prison at a July sentencing hearing.

Kaivonni died Feb. 25, 2021, of blunt force injuries to her abdomen, and her death was ruled a homicide by the Allen County Coroner's Offic
