PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - All the ships for Fleet Week have officially docked along Portland’s waterfront — but this military visit is about more than celebrating the Rose Festival.

While it is exciting for families to come out and see these giant U.S. Navy ships parked along Portland’s waterfront, for the sailors who came in on these boats, Fleet Week is an opportunity to give back to the communities they are visiting.

Three naval officers from the ‘Amphibious Squadron SEVEN’ came ashore Thursday to tour the Portland Rescue Mission in Old Town. Turns out that shelter runs a tight ship.
