COLUMBIA, S.C. — A 29-year-old man has been cited in connection with a serious crash on Wednesday that critically injured a woman and temporarily shut down a major intersection in North Columbia, police said Thursday.

The Columbia Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit cited the man for reckless driving, disregarding a traffic control device, and driving without insurance after a wreck at the intersection of North Main Street and Columbia College Drive on Wednesday morning.

According to investigators, a driver crashed into another vehicle, causing it to strike a traffic control power box. The impact left the female passenger in that vehicle with critical injuries. She remains hospitalized as of Thursday.
