A pride flag was vandalized on Wednesday outside Sayreville borough hall — just hours after it was hung — but officials have rehung a fresh one and are looking for the culprit who destroyed the original.

“It was at the very least an act of vandalism,” Sayreville borough administrator Glenn Skarzynski said by phone on Thursday. “Police are looking to identify the miscreant responsible.”

Sayreville resident Anthony Sposato hoisted the pride flag Wednesday morning on a community flagpole on the northeast corner of the property occupied by borough hall after getting permission from the borough.
