TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - New memorial highway signs are now up in Jefferson County to honor Major John Haynes , a veteran who fought in three wars, received a Purple Heart and is a member of the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame.
The signs went up this week on Highway 59 near Lloyd to honor Haynes, who everyone there calls “The Major.”
Sheriff Mac McNeill teamed up with county commissioners to help make it happen.
“I’m really excited about it,” Sheriff McNeill said. “He was such an amazing man with an amazing life and to be able to ride up and down this road and see this sign and remember him every day that you see it means a lot to us in this county.”
