PORTLAND, Maine — The city of Portland and Portland Parks Conservancy held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for the construction of a new outdoor community pool.
The new facility is replacing the aging Kiwanis Pool, located on Douglass Street, which has stood on the site for more than 60 years.
“The city has known for years that the facility needed to be replaced and has been developing this really inspiring plan to both expand the facility and add fun, inclusive features,” said Jack Phillips, Executive Director of the Portland Parks Conservancy.
Once completed, the new facility will include waterslides, a splash pad, a dedicated space for lap swimming and water walking, a zero-grade entry into the pool for accessibility, a concessions window, a lawn area, and improved layout for ev
