DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - After weeks of back and forth, the Duluth City Council held a special meeting Thursday night to decide the fate of the Safe Bay at the Vineyard Church in the Kenwood neighborhood.

The council faced a decision of whether to affirm or deny the Planning Commission’s decision last month to give the Vineyard Church an Interim Use Permit to allow for a Safe Bay in their parking lot.

The city council affirmed the Planning Commission’s decision in a 6 to 0 vote.

The Safe Bay will allow people who are homeless a safe place to park and sleep at night.

The placement of Safe Bay was due to renovations already underway at the Damiano Center, which forced the Safe Bay there to temporarily close and find a new home.
