FRANKLIN, Mass. (WPRI) — It was an emotional evening in Franklin Thursday as dozens gathered to mourn the loss of a mother and her 5-year-old daughter.

The Patel family was on their way to pick up a cake for their son's birthday when a suspected drunk driver slammed into their car on Grove Street.

Krisha Patel, 5, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her mother, 38-year-old Minaben Patel, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital earlier this week.

Atul Patel, Minaben's husband and Krisha's father, was driving at the time of the crash. He was treated for unspecified injuries and released from the hospital that same day.
