CAPTAIN COOK (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii Island police captured a wanted fugitive after an alleged crime spree resulted in an officer-involved shooting in the Captain Cook area on Wednesday.

Officers arrested and charged Junson Heckerz, 28, of Ocean View, with more than a dozen suspected offenses.

His alleged crime spree started at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, when officers received a report from a man who had been riding a utility task vehicle (UTV) while searching for his stolen car.

The man said when he found it, a man later identified as Heckerz was in the driver’s seat.

Heckerz reportedly fled the scene in the man’s UTV.

Then at 10:11 a.m., dispatch received a call about a man attempting to steal a pickup truck from a residence on Mamalahoa Highway, less than a mile away. He fled aft
