HAMPTON — Police are investigating a report of shots fired at Hampton Beach on June 5, but police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

Hampton police officers, along with multiple law enforcement agencies, responded around 7:35 p.m. to reports of gunfire near Ocean Boulevard and G Street.

Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno said police quickly formed a perimeter, identified a suspect, and secured a firearm.

"A person of interest matching the description was quickly taken into custody by police," Reno stated in a press release.

The chief didn't immediately release the name of the suspect in custody or comment on potential charges.

Reno said there were no injuries, and there was no further threat to public safety.

Reno said G Street is temporarily closed due to the investigation
