DES MOINES, Iowa —

Disability advocates in Iowa are concerned that President Donald Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" could lead to cuts in Medicaid, affecting thousands of Iowans who rely on the program.

The health care advocacy group Protect Our Care Iowa warns that the proposed cuts could be particularly challenging for disabled Iowans.

"We need to update our systems, rather than make them more difficult to remain on them," said Alex Watters, a disability rights advocate and member of the Sioux City City Council. "We need to empower those with disabilities who are still working hard, but need those essential services so they can continue to do so."

The bill, which passed the House by only one vote, is now in the Senate.
