KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A Knox County man has pleaded guilty to multiple counts of first-degree murder in connection to a 2023 double murder of two women. Jair Martin entered the guilty plea Thursday afternoon in court as the families of the victims looked on.

Emotions for the families of Madison Johnson and Heidi Johnson running high as the state read off an interaction that was caught on an audio recording from May 13, 2023. Emotions were also elevated when the guilty plea was officially read.

"Well, hearing it was not what I was expecting the emotion might be. It took long enough, it's been over two years which was drug out," said David Johnson, the father of Madison Johnson. "This is going to help kind of expedite things through the process of our judicial system."
