NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — As new aluminum and steel tariffs loom, local business owners like Carl Meier are bracing for the ripple effects.

Meier, owner of Black Abbey Brewing Company, says inflation has already taken a toll on the industry since he launched the business in 2013.

“In 2016, our cost per can was about 10 cents,” Meier said. “By 2020, it had jumped to 12 cents — that’s a 20% increase.”

Now, with former President Donald Trump proposing a 50% tariff on imported steel and aluminum, Meier worries prices will rise even more.
