SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- It was graduation day on Thursday for some special students in Schenectady. The graduates were in the GED program.

They've spent months studying to achieve their GED. Jesse Roylance, the director of adult and continuing education, said it's a triumph for adults who have overcome many challenges to get here.

"So, it's students who have taken an alternative pathway," he said. "For whatever reason, they didn't get their high school diplomas, so these are students who have gone above and beyond. Students who have put that extra effort in -- they have families, they have kids, they have other commitments -- and they still put their time in to get their high school diplomas."

With this diploma, officials said it will open a whole new world of job opportunities.
