BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board is weighing a proposal by the superintendent to change the start times at a handful of schools.

EBR Schools has the earliest start times in the state.

“It was exhausting during the day, and I had a lot of trouble finding ways not to be exhausted,” said High School Senior Forest Raetzsch.

Superintendent LaMont Cole gets that. He’s hoping to start a pilot program to change the start and dismissal times at six schools in the district.

“To have our students who live in high crime neighborhoods on bus stops in high crime neighborhoods at 5:30 in the morning in of itself is criminal,” said Cole.

Those schools are Glen Oaks High School, Merrydale Elementary, Glen Oaks Park Elementary, Capitol High, Capitol Elementary, and Mel
