Tim Brogan admits being shocked when Burke Catholic fell behind 6-0 in the third inning of Thursday’s first-round Class C state tournament baseball game.
However, with the season slipping away, Brogan still thought the Eagles would win, and they did in dramatic fashion. Jordan Drucker’s walk-off RBI double in the eighth inning gave Burke Catholic a 7-6 come-from-behind win over Bridgehampton/Ross at Cantine Field in Saugerties.
The Eagles (15-2) move on to play Tuckahoe in the Class C state quarterfinals at noon on Saturday in Saugerties.
“I was a little surprised when we gave up six runs in the third inning,” Brogan said. “But I knew our bats would come alive, and we still had a lot of outs to work with. To face that kind of adversity and come back feels awesome.”
