AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Just 10 years ago, a third grader was playing for a traveling basketball team when he and two others died after a crash at the intersection of Riverwatch Parkway and Stevens Creek Road.

The Eric J. Smalls Memorial Scholarship was established by United Elite Basketball, a nonprofit youth basketball organization, in memory of Eric smalls, the third grader who was killed.

On Thursday, two students received $500 scholarships - usually, there is only one scholarship awarded for $1,000.
