Man attempts to kidnap woman, child in Peoria before getting shot by police

PEORIA, Ariz. — A man was allegedly trying to kidnap a woman and her baby in Peoria. A shooting that involved an officer occurred shortly after.

Peoria police were called to a shooting near 83rd and Sweetwater avenues Thursday evening.

Police later told 12News that a man approached a woman walking with her baby in a stroller in the greenbelt area near a park and tried to kidnap them. The man, who was unknown to the woman, allegedly bearhugged the woman from behind, police said.
