Actor Tom Hanks has shared his reaction to claims of abuse in his daughter’s new memoir.

People reports that the famous actor has responded to the claims made in “The 10: A Memoir of Family and the Open Road,” written by his daughter E.A. Hanks, against her mother, actor Samantha Lewes.

Lewes and Tom Hanks were divorced in 1987, and she was given primary custody of their children.

In the book, People reports, E.A. Hanks claims that Lewes used both “emotional violence” and “physical violence” against her, and that her years between ages 5 and 14 were “filled with confusion, violence, deprivation, and love.”

Among other claims, E.A. wrote that she was once the subject of physical abuse, which led to her returning to her father’s primary custody.
