OMAHA, Neb. —

At the Douglas County Youth Center in Omaha, a program led by Roscoe Wallace is teaching empathy and accountability to high-risk incarcerated youth through peer-to-peer support circles.

"Children that do not feel the warmth of the village will burn the village down to feel this warmth," Wallace said.

Wallace explained that many youths do not understand the impact of their actions until they are incarcerated.

"We've assumed that they know the impact of what they're doing. And a lot of times, they don't really understand that till they're here," he said.

The program brings peer-to-peer support circles to high-risk youth at the Douglas County Youth Center.
