SEYMOUR, Conn. — A Beacon Falls man is dead after a car he was driving crashed on Route 8, state police said.

State police learned through a preliminary investigation that the man was driving a Subaru Legacy on the northbound side of the highway.

According to officials, as the Subaru was driving in the area of Exit 18 in Seymour, it lost control for an unknown reason. It traveled from the left of two lanes over to the right shoulder, where it started to roll over.

While it rolled, the car then hit an overhead light pole support, throwing the driver out of the car.

The driver, 37-year-old Daniel Popiolek, was rushed to Waterbury Hospital by EMS crews where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
