ANDERSON COUNTY, Texas — A proposed water project by the Neches Trinity Valley Groundwater Conservation District has sparked concern across East Texas, with residents and local leaders in East Texas counties raising alarms over its potential impact.
The plan involves tapping into 21 wells in Redtown, located in Angelina County. Nearby resident Melisa Meador fears the project could devastate not only her 40-acre cattle and pecan farm, but the broader community.
"This will devastate all of us as a community here, and it's just going to go farther," Meador said.
Meador, who lives just a mile from Redtown Ranch—now owned by a corporate real estate giant—worries about the toll on her land and livestock. She says once the dry season hits, her trees won't survive without groundwater support.
