Miami Fire Rescue holds graduation for Junior Cadet program

MIAMI – Miami Fire Rescue hosted the first Junior Cadet program graduation on Thursday since relaunching the program this year.

Over the last eight months, one a week, thirteen cadets have stopped by the city’s training facility, learning firsthand what it takes to become a Miami firefighter, from emergency medical procedures like CPR to basic firefighting skills.

It’s a program Miami Fire Chief Robert Hevia told Local 10 News he’s proud to have brought back.

“We’re really teaching about commitment, dedication and service while having fun,” he said.

Anyone between the ages of 14 and 18 can apply to the program.
