HOUSTON — An 11-year-old boy was shot in north Houston on Thursday and transported to a hospital by the Houston Fire Department.

The shooting happened on Lomax Street near Berry Road, where Northeast Division officers responded to the scene.

Police said the boy and his brother were playing basketball in from of their home when a car drove past the house multiple times. Someone in the blue four-door car then fired shots before fleeing.

The boy was struck in the abdomen but gunfire. He was rushed to the hospital and was in surgery.

The Houston Police Department has not released additional details about the boy's condition, the circumstances surrounding the shooting, or whether any suspects have been identified. The investigation remains ongoing.
