SCOTT COUNTY, Tenn. — Dozens of neighbors in Oneida gathered at Oneida High School Thursday evening to share their concerns about a private investor developing a new landfill adjacent to the current landfill.
Thirteen neighbors signed up to speak to Lori Phillips-Jones, the mayor of Oneida, and the city's aldermen. Every speaker said they believe the development would present either physical, financial or cultural problems for their community.
Ralph Trieschmann, the owner of Timber Rock Lodge, said he's not just thinking about himself.
“I’m saying the ability that I have to pass on a business one day, to either my children, or sell to another investor down the road, would be very damaging by the proximity of the landfill," Trieschmann said.
