HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The national search for a new athletics director for the University of Hawaii officially opened on April 4.

Two months later, a selection was made and student-athletes say they feel a sense of relief.

“I’m just looking forward to meeting the new AD and hopefully having a good relationship with him,” said quarterback Micah Alejado.

After combing through over a hundred applications, UH president Wendy Hensel officially announced Matt Elliott as the next leader of Hawaii’s 21 athletic teams.

He brings 13 years of experience to Manoa, after working in athletics administration at UCLA.

Elliott first moved to Hawaii in 2005 to clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Alan C. Kay.

He and his family moved back to Oahu three years ago.
